Positions. Argued from the record.

The record takes no position. These pieces do, and they say so. Each states its claim in one sentence, rates how settled the evidence is, gives the strongest case against itself, and lists every source.

The first positions are being written.

Until then, the editorial standards explain how they will be argued, and the timeline holds the record they will draw on.

How a position is argued. The same way every time.

  1. One claim, stated plainly. A sentence the evidence can support or defeat.
  2. A confidence rating. How settled the evidence is, not how strongly we feel.
  3. The strongest case against. Stated as its own proponents would state it.
  4. Every source listed. And every case linked to the record.
  5. Kept apart from the record. Positions never change what the timeline, cases or measures show.
